There are so many different ways for one to organize recipes, I personally prefer the "old-fashioned" way of handwriting them out but I do have a Pinterest board as well. Theres pros and cons to both methods but I can be tricky to figure out which organization method works best for you. Don't worry, I've got you covered and will give you tips for both methods.

+ Pinterest

Oh Pinterest. I probably spend way too much time on Pinterest...but who doesn't, right? Pinterest is such a great resource for finding new recipes to try and if used in an organized fashion, it can help you organize recipes too. I am quite OCD so it's okay if your boards aren't as insanely organized as  mine (I go through and alphabetize them because I'm a weirdo) but there are a few organization tips I totally recommend. I have boards for each type of dish, for example my food boards include:

breakfast

,

brunch

,

cookies

,

crockpot

,

desserts

,

entrees

,

lunch

,

pies + cakes

,

scones + muffins

,

sides

,

sweet breads

, and

vegan

. I also have boards for

Christmas

,

Thanksgiving

, and

Easter

so those food recipes don't get lost in the general food boards. I find having all of these categorized boards is much more convenient than having one "food" board because it makes searching for recipes nine hundred times easier. Once I try a recipe, if it's one that I enjoyed and want to keep, I move it to my board labeled

Recipe Box

. This way I don't have to try and remember to write it down immediately and then people who visit my

Pinterest profile

can check out the recipes that I have tried and enjoyed. This is sort of the "fun" way that I organize recipe cards and it is nice to have the recipes on the go in case I forgot something on my grocery list or someone wants one of my recipes. Learn how to organize your Pinterest boards like a pro,

+ Old-Fashioned Recipe Card Boxes

This is my favorite method because I can also organize the recipe cards passed on to me from my great-grandmother and I just like having handwritten things around; it feels homy and cozy. I spent months and months searching for the perfect recipe box and I finally found one on Ebay. The ones I found in vintage shops were either not wood (which is what I wanted) or colors that would clash with my house or they were stupid expensive. I think I paid around $20 for mine and it's not perfect but it is pretty darn close to what I was looking for. It's nicked up and has water marks on the lid but that's what gives it charm. The issue I have with this box, and found was an issue with most vintage recipe boxes, is that it fits recipe cards that are 3x5" and the majority of commercial recipe cards are 4x6" which doesn't so much work for my box. Also, store-bought recipe cards that are really cute (like

these

) can be extremely pricier and you only get a few cards. For someone who cooks and bakes everyday, you need more than 12 recipe cards. That's why I needed

free

and

 printable

recipe cards. I couldn't find the sizes that I needed or designs that I enjoyed so I decided to make some myself. You can download these 3x5" recipe cards and dividers in various colors below.
