I’ve been doing a casual tot school with William for about six months or so and we have tried many different “methods” for doing tot school, different learning activities, and activities for different learning styles. I resisted using the iPad as part of tot school, all the articles out there say not to, but as soon as William started using it regularly, his speech and cognitive understanding improved immensely.
His favorite apps are ones that are alphabet based. After watching the app videos and games a few times, he starts copying the letter sounds and copies the words associated with those letters. The best part is how proud he is of himself when he learns a new sound or word. There’s nothing better than seeing your toddler’s face when they learn something new, it’s precious and you’re just as proud as they are.
If your toddler is like William and has a hard time sitting still for “normal” educational activities, I highly recommend trying an iPad. The bright colors and the sounds keep him entertained and he really has learned so much.
The way I see it, we should monitor the amount of technology our children use but we shouldn’t resist using it. The world is all about technology and our toddlers are growing up in this technology-based world so we have to teach them how to live in it.
I’ve already shared a few of William’s favorite apps (and soon I’ll be sharing more educational ones) here and here but today I want to tell you about our new favorite learning app and if you stay until the end, you can enter to win one of three subscriptions to the app!
KidloLand is an amazing app full of nursery rhymes, songs, and games for kids five-years-old and under. There are activities for toddlers and preschoolers of all ages and all will teach them something.
Head into the app and choose from an array of themes and types of activities. My favorite thing about the app is the amount of options available to my son. There is absolutely no way that he can ever get bored in this app. So many apps do just one or two things but this one does everything.
William loves the music. I won’t lie, it is slightly annoying but so is most educational kids’ music, right? Ha. The app is teaching him classic songs like “Wheels on the Bus” and helping with skills like putting together puzzles and matching.
KidloLand is available for purchase in iTunes, the Google Play store, and the Amazon App Store. The app itself is free but does require a monthly subscription. There are three subscription options: $4.99/month, $24.99/six months, or $39.99 for one year. If you’d like to try the app out, I am giving away three three-month subscriptions to KidloLand! So three winners will each receive a free three-month subscription to this amazing learning app. Once the winners are chosen (at random), I will send your email addresses to the cool peeps over at KidloLand so they can get you set up with your subscription!
