Weekly Menu Planning

Abby shares her weekly menu plan to give you inspiration for your own menu >> #littlecitykitchen

Welcome to my new Saturday series! I'm not going to lie, I'm doing this for slightly selfish reasons but maybe, just maybe it will be informational and helpful for you as well. During my first trimester I had the worst food aversions. I mean I could not eat

anything

except for crackers, granola bars, and occasionally pasta. It was not fun. As soon as my second trimester started my food aversions diminished almost completely (still cannot eat sandwich bread, lettuce, bananas, or meat) but I remained just as tired which meant I would not be cooking well-rounded meals all that often. I'm just about 15 weeks and I have more of a desire to bake/cook once again (

finally!!

). But I have to take it slow. And if I don't have things picked out ahead of time I will end up eating cheese and crackers as a meal. No joke; that's what I had for lunch yesterday and snack the day before.

Yesterday I decided that I need to 1)

eat healthier

, 2)

stop picking up take-out or going out to eat as often

, and 3)

plan ahead

in order to avoid unhealthy choices

. So I spent about an hour last evening preparing a meal plan for next week (Sunday-Saturday) as well as a detailed shopping list. Today I gathered [almost] all of my ingredients needed for the week so I have no excuses, everything is in my kitchen. No getting lazy. That's why I'm sharing this with you folks! I need you to keep my accountable! Next Saturday when I post the next week's menu I'll also report back on how I did following this week's menu, feel free to harass me if I completely failed (okay, be nice but you know what I mean). Below, check out what I found at

Central Market

this morning for my menu (I'd show you what I picked up at Giant but that just sounds boring, fresh/local produce is much more exciting in my mind).

Don't worry, I went to Giant after Market to fill in the gaps. Oh, and I forgot to add my two lemons to the photo! And I have multiples of some of these items but obviously just didn't have enough room to photograph everything. The baby carrots are solely for snack purposes only, baby likes them so far; I dip 'em in ranch dressing or hummus,

yum

every week all online recipes will be pinned to

this board

on Pinterest.

This week's recipes include:

Sweet Potato Muffins

,

Spinach and Artichoke Pizza

on

Whole Wheat Crust

,

Tomato Soup

,

Veggie Lo Mein

,

Blueberry Baked Oatmeal

,

Vegetarian Chili

with

Cornbread

,

Quinoa Casserole

, and

Honey Oat Pancakes

Those all sounded good to my pregnant belly so hopefully all goes well with following the plan this week. Anything on my menu look yummy to you too? What are you cookin' up this week??

Love,

Abby

Christmas Snapshots

I truly hope that all of you had a wonderful, family-filled, joyful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Seth and I spent Christmas day in our home and our parents and siblings came to us. I was planning on doing a photo an hour post as my Christmas day post but I was so very tired and just a tad out of it on Wednesday so I didn't take nearly as many photos as I had hoped but here are a few snapshots of the things that I will remember from the day.

I've finally started showing! My baby belly is sticking out just a little bit (I'm glad it's growing out front instead of pretty much everywhere else ha).

For the first time I made cinnamon rolls from scratch! Um...new favorite thing to bake! If I ever own my own bakery I'd make sure we made cinnamon rolls fresh every morning.

We got Seth's dad a French Press for Christmas so Seth gave a lesson on how to make French Press.

In between family visits we cuddled on the couch and watched movies on Seth's new BluRay player. Aren't my socks awesome? Sethy got them for me because my feet are always freezing.

What moments will you remember from your Christmas celebrations this year?

Abby

DIY: Wedding Flower Ornament

Looking for a creative way to save your wedding flowers? Dry your flowers and make this creative DIY Christmas ornament!

What do you do with your leftover wedding flowers? Sure you can simply dry them or even press them but then what? Put the pressed flowers in a photo frame? That's not the only option you've got, my friends! Today I present to you an easy peezy do it yourself tutorial to make a beautiful Christmas ornament out of your dried wedding bouquet. It only takes two materials and it's so very easy but still makes a lovely gift for family.

Here's what you need:

I didn't even think to save my wedding bouquet. We may have been in a bit of a rush. But my mom had them saved for me when we got back from Boston! Aside from your dried flowers, you'll also need clear plastic or glass ball ornaments. I opted for plastic ones because 1) they won't break and since I'm uber clumsy and have a baby coming, non-breakable things are awesome and 2) they were only $1 at the craft store. Can't beat that with a stick.

Here's what you do:

Pull the dried flowers off and put them inside the ornament. It's as easy as that. The way that my flowers dried it worked best to put more petals in than whole flowers but depending on how you dry them that may be different.

And the finished product:

You could add a bit of ribbon in your wedding colors or a little tag that says something like "Seth & Abby June 21, 2013" or whatever your names are and wedding date was. You get the idea.

This is a wonderful keepsake for yourself and for your family to remember your special day during a very special time of the year! Merry Christmas everybody!!

Abby

Gift Guide: Momma To Be

1.

Back Road Ramble Top in Petal

:

Now this isn't a maternity top specifically but order it a size up and the cut will lay over a first/second trimester bump just beautifully.

2.

Philosophy for Mommy Gift Set

:

Philosophy makes beautiful products and any mommy to be or new mom would love this pampering set.

3.

Luxe Lounge Socks

:

This may be slightly odd but Bath & Body Works seriously makes the most luxurious socks. And most of them have little grippies on the bottom so there's no slippage for momma to be!

4.

24-oz Tumbler

:

This is the most glamorous item on the guide (that's sarcasm folks). So I actually have this water bottle (I didn't know it was 24 oz so that's good to know) and I take it to work and carry it around with me everywhere else. One of the most important things is for mommas to stay hydrated and this water bottle is great because of that straw; no having to flip lids while working with food at work. Although this may not be glam, it is a basic necessity.

5.

MAMA Leggings

:

I got these leggings already. I wear them already. They are awesome. In the first trimester when you're all bloated and have stomach aches, nothing tight feels good on the belly so these have been a life saver. They are comfy and warm and just awesome!

6.

Elizabeth Arden Ultra Plush Robe

:

This is fantastic for new moms to, so luxurious. Pair it with those socks from Bath & Body Works and it's like a spa day while sitting on the sofa watching Netflix.

7.

What to Expecting When You're Expecting & What to Expect the First Year

:

Even those these books may not look appealing, they really are the best books for learning about pregnancy and little babies.

8.

L'Occitane Mom & Baby Body Lotion

:

L'Occitane makes some of the best momma/baby products that are high quality and just lovely. This lotion is perfect for mom and for baby. Moisturizing helps with those mean 'ol stretch marks!

Gift Guide: For Him

1.

Braun Sport Analog Watch

:

This is a classy but sporty watch that any guy, athlete or not, wouldn't mind wearing.

2.

Italian Travel + Outdoor Silverware

:

Is your guy a camper/adventurer/likes eating with tiny silverware? This would make the perfect gift for him!

3.

L'Occitane Gift Set

:

This set includes shower gel, shaving gel, and after shave balm. This is a wonderful brand that is high quality and even though I haven't smelled this set before, I can guarantee it's good stuff.

4.

BonJour 3 Cup Coffee Press

:

A french press is the perfect gift for any coffee lover. Seth totally prefers french press coffee to drip and glass french presses are the best ones for the best coffee.

5.

TOMS Black Strip Men's Paseos

:

I got Seth a pair of TOMS for Christmas a few years ago and they are still in great shape, he even wore them

in the wedding

. He says they are his most comfortable shoes and they look great dressed up or down.

6.

Official Baseball Scorebook

:

This would be more for my dad and brother than for Seth. This would make a fantastic gift for any baseball fanatic.

7.

Chisel iPhone Dock

:

I just think that this thing looks freaking awesome! This is such a cool way to keep your phone in place while charging it at night, it would look great if you had an alarm clock app open and set up on the dock. Yeah, I'm geeking out over here.

8.

Epic Flannel Shirt

:

I got Seth a patterned flannel shirt from American Eagle and he wears it all the time! He said it's so comfy and they are good quality (which is good considering the price).

9.

Fossil 'Dunbar' Wallet

:

Every man needs a quality wallet and I love the wood patterns on this one.

10.

Lambsweool Mockneck Sweater

:

Oh my gosh can I have a blanket made out of this sweater? It looks soft through a photo...I'm not sure how a photo can look soft but this one does. I wouldn't mind cuddling up into this sweater (wink, wink).
